FUN FACT: Baby is the size of a POPPY SEED
This week marks the beginning of the embryonic period, from here until 10 weeks baby’s organs will begin to develop and some will even begin to function.
Right now the baby embryo is split into two layers (epiblast and hypoblast) from which essentially the baby will develop. Also developing is the primitive placenta, which won’t actually be 100% in use until towards the end of the first trimester, however, until then, the baby also has a yolk sac present to provide the nutrition until the placenta takes over. Alongside that the amniotic sac is also present and the amniotic fluid which will house and cushion baby until birth.
So as you can see, a lot is happening straight from the get go! The body is working overtime to kick start this miracle process of growing a human therefore symptoms may already be appearing in many women as well as the most common missed period, so it is somewhere in this week that many (especially those that were trying or expecting) will take a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy.
I took mine at 4 weeks + 3 days, to which came out a strong positive and so we spent the rest of the weekend by the pool to celebrate the happy news!
Tomorrow’s blog I’ll be posting about how I found out about my pregnancy, but until then, comment and let me know how you found out about yours!
